‘On track’ to win again after 15 years since 2008
Korea’s youth baseball team heads to Taiwan for the finals.
The Korea Baseball Softball Association said in a press release that the team will depart on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. via OZ 711 to participate in the 31st World Youth Baseball Championship (U-18 Baseball World Cup), which will be held in two cities, Taipei and Taichung, Taiwan, from Sept. 1 (Friday) to 10 (Sunday).
Coach Chung Am-go Lee Young-bok and the U-18 National Baseball Team, who were selected as the team’s head coach through a competition, have been conducting domestic strengthening training since the 21st of this month (Monday), and during the training period, they checked their adaptation to each position and their ability to perform operations, and focused on maximizing their practical experience through practice games against Korea-Japan Jangshin University, Wonkwang University, and an open evaluation game against the JTBC Strongest Baseball Monsters.
A total of 12 countries will compete in the tournament, which will be divided into Group A and Group B. Korea will compete in Group A against home team Taiwan, Australia, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the Czech Republic, while Group B will feature the United States, Japan, Venezuela, Panama, the Netherlands, and Spain in the preliminary round. The top three nations from each group will advance to the Super Round, where the results of the qualifying and super rounds will be combined to determine the medal match.스포츠토토
South Korea, which won the inaugural edition in 1981, has won the tournament five times – in 1994, 2000, 2006 and 2008 – and had to settle for fourth place at the 30th edition in Sarasota, USA, last year despite a strong overall record of 7-2 and an undefeated Super Round record.
The 31st World Youth Baseball Championship will be broadcast live on SPOTV.
