National badminton team draws 2-2 with Japan

Korea and Japan badminton could not distinguish between superiority and inferiority in the battle of pride.

The two national teams tied 2-2 at the 38th Korea-Japan National Badminton Tournament held at Seosan Civic Gymnasium in Chungcheongnam-do on the 14th and 15th.

The competition was held in a way that the men’s and women’s teams played the first and second games over two days.

In the men’s team, Jeon Hyeok-jin in singles and Choi Sol-kyu and Kim Won-ho in doubles lost to the Japanese team, but Jo Joon-yeop Cho in singles and Seo Seung-jae and Kang Min-hyeok in doubles defeated their opponents. Singles Jeong Min-seon won by abstaining.

In the women’s team, Kim Ga-eun won the singles match, and in the doubles, Kim Hye-jeong and Jeong Na-eun, and Shin Seung-chan and Lee Yu-rim, respectively, defeated the Japanese team. Shim Yu-jin and Kim Joo-eun of singles were defeated after three sets.

With this, the national team took a 2-0 overall lead, but lost both games in the second leg on the second day.

In the men’s singles, Lee Yoon-gyu, Lee Seung-hun and Choi Pyeong-gang won three consecutive losses, and in the doubles Na Seong-seung-Jin Yong and Kim Jae-hwan-Cho Song-hyeon won to save face.

In the women’s team, Ahn Se-young in singles and Kim Hye-jeong and Jeong Na-eun in doubles each won a landslide 2-0 victory, but Lee Se-yeon and Kim Gar-ram in singles and Kim So-young and Gong Hee-yong in doubles took a knee.

The event, which started in 1982, is held alternately every year in Korea and Japan. In 2020 and 2021, it was not held in the aftermath of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).
