Ha-Sung Kim (San Diego Padres) suffered a major injury in the game.
Kim was struck near his left knee by a foul ball during a 2023 Major League Baseball game against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., on June 26. Kim complained of severe pain and barely made it off the field before being assisted by two team trainers.
Kim, who was batting seventh and playing third base on the day, pulled hard on a two-seam fastball from Washington starter Jake Irvin in the top of the second inning with the bases loaded and the score 0-1, but the pitch struck Kim in the left knee. After being hit by the pitch, Kim fell to the ground, holding his knee, in excruciating pain.
The extent of his injury is not yet known.
With starting third baseman Manny Machado and second baseman Ha Sung Kim on the disabled list, the San Diego infield is in a state of emergency.
Meanwhile, Ha-Sung Kim was playing third base in place of Machado on the day, but he made an unfortunate error.
In the bottom of the first inning, Lane Thomas hit a line drive between shortstop and third base.
Kim made an exquisite dive to catch the ball, but dropped it. He immediately scooped it up and threw to first base, but first baseman Jake Cronenwirth didn’t cover first because he thought Kim had caught the ball.메이저놀이터
Kim made an unfortunate throw to first base. Thomas then followed up with a single to center field.
While Kim’s “bad throw” was blamed for the run, it was actually Cronenwirth’s error.
Cronenwirth should have covered first base before the third base umpire called the out.
To make matters worse for Cronenwirth, Kim suffered a leg injury on the play in the top of the second inning.
It was a stark reminder of why San Diego has struggled this season.
