Artillery Discharge→Most Rookie Holds→Rookie of the Year→National Team… “You don’t have to worry”

After being discharged from the artillery, he made his debut in the KBO League and won the Rookie of the Year title and became a pitcher representing the country beyond Doosan. This is why the Taegeuk mark of Doosan Pil Seung-jo and Jeong Cheol-won (24) is receiving a lot of attention.

Jeong Cheol-won, from the 2022 KBO Rookie of the Year, made it to the 30 final entries for the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC) announced on the 4th and fulfilled his dream of becoming a national representative for the first time in his life. It was an achievement achieved within a year of his debut in the KBO League.

Jeong Cheol-won is a right-handed fireballer who came out of Ansan Technical High School and was nominated in the 20th place in the 2nd round of the 2nd round by Doosan in the 2018 rookie draft. However, contrary to his expectations, he realized the high wall of the 1st Army at the beginning of his joining, and enlisted as an active artilleryman to fulfill his military service duties first. Without his first-team debut, he enlisted in active duty, not even as a sergeant. In a way, it was a choice that could be somewhat adventurous in my early 20s.

Jeong Cheol-won took his enlistment as a turning point in his career. On May 6 of last year, he appeared on the first team stage like a comet, quickly adapting and becoming a set-up man. Under any circumstances, he earned the trust of former manager Kim Tae-hyung by boldly throwing a stone fastball of over 150km in the middle, which led to the record of the most holds (23 holds) in his debut season. And thanks to this, at the KBO Awards Ceremony last year, he was given the honor of Rookie of the Year, which he can only receive once in his life.  토토사이트

Initially, not many people expected Jeong Cheol-won to be on the national team. No matter how much he left an impression in his first year, he was just a rookie who played one season. National team coach Lee Kang-cheol evaluated Jeong Cheol-won in the second half of last year, saying, “I am doing well, but I need to gain more experience.” That’s why he was included in the 15 pitcher entries along with outstanding seniors.

Manager Lee Kang-cheol said at a press conference on the 4th, “When I first took the position of manager, I thought about the future of Korean baseball and built a national team mainly with young players. Of course, we selected veteran players who are good because we have to produce results, but we will give the rest of the players a chance if they are in good condition. It is a short-term game with a limited number of pitches, so it is necessary to use a wide range of pitching entries.”

However, Cheol-Won Jeong showed his fighting spirit by digesting 72⅔ innings, disappointing his debut season last year. He was called in every match and close game situation, and was named the third most inning relief pitcher after KT Kim Min-soo (80⅔ innings) and Doosan Kim Myung-shin (79⅔ innings). As a result, he was at the center of the controversy over overuse in the second half. Although he said he was committed to recovery from the finishing camp, he seems to need to take care of his body even after going to the WBC.

Jeong Cheol-won, who wore the Taegeuk mark, said through the Doosan club, “I will show a good figure so that people will hear that I am a Doosan Bears player. He is confident because he has been playing baseball since he was young. You don’t have to worry.” He showed confidence.
