2000 hits in 1631 games…Altuve “a huge accomplishment, thanks to my teammates and family”

Jose Altuve (Houston Astros) reached the 2,000-hit milestone.

Altuve went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBIs as the Astros batted first and second against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.

Altuve got a hit in his first at-bat. Logan Gilbert’s first pitch, a four-seam fastball, was hit high. It was well outside the strike zone, but Altuve swung at it for a hit. Alex Bregman followed with a walk to load the bases, but Jordan Alvarez struck out looking. Chas McCormick followed with a single, but was stranded.

After striking out in his second at-bat, Altuve set the record straight in his third. He led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a walk and drove in Gilbert with a single. It was Altuve’s 2,000th career hit. Altuve hit a line drive to the left field fence. Altuve sprinted to second base, but was tagged out at second. However, he made his way to the dugout to be congratulated by the home fans.

Altuve singled in his fourth at-bat to complete his three-hit game. In his final at-bat in the bottom of the ninth, he struck out. The game ended with a 10-3 win for Seattle.

According to MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, Altuve said after the game, “I know it’s not good to lose today, but I’m really happy. I’m grateful to my teammates, my family, and God,” he said, adding, “2,000 hits is a big accomplishment.”온라인바카

Altuve became the third player in Houston franchise history to reach 2,000 hits. He is the seventh active player and the only player to reach the milestone who debuted in 2011 or later. He is also the 10th Venezuelan player in franchise history to reach 2,000 hits.

Altuve made his big league debut with Houston in 2011 and has been with the Astros for 13 seasons. He’s an eight-time All-Star, six-time Silver Slugger, one-time American League MVP, and two-time World Series champion, including four straight 200-hit seasons starting in 2014. In 1631 career games, Altuve has 2001 doubles, 201 home runs, 725 RBI, 1030 runs scored, a .307 batting average and a .834 OPS.

Altuve said, “It’s great to see my name listed with other players from Venezuela. Miguel Cabrera (Detroit Tigers) had 3000 hits a year ago. It means a lot to me,” he said, adding, “(3,000 hits) is a long way.”
